Our Story

Church of the Arts is being planted by the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery as part of the new church development program. Church of the Arts will share a building with the presbytery and use the sanctuary that is part of that space, which is a former church. The concept for a Church of the Arts is partly due to the vision of the pastor, Rev. Tricia Petraven, who is an artist and a former scenic designer for the stage. She presented the idea to the presbytery and it was unanimously well received and supported.

The vision for this church is for it to be a place of creative worship, so that artists and dreamers can use their gifts to glorify God and point us to Jesus. It is also meant to be a place where people who have been damaged or disillusioned by church can find healing, since art can do so much to rejuvenate the soul. And it strives to be relevant and meaningful by engaging us with our faith, so we can grow and thrive.

Church of the Arts at Park Circle is still in development, with a plan to open in the fall, so it invites creative visionaries to participate in the process. If you feel that God may be calling you to join the crew, please get in touch with the pastor and have a conversation about how you can be involved.
